John Olin, former owner of Winchester, wanted a hunting and shooting preserve to set the standard for conservation practices across the United States. NILO did just that. In 1952, he took 650 acres of farmland joined by timber and turned it into a hunting and shooting paradise, as well as the model for conservation property.
